Work in honor of Dr. Christina Cattaneo, professor of forensic medicine and anthropology in Milan, Italy. Ms. Cattaneo worked with the Italian Office for Missing Persons to identify the victims of two major shipwrecks (which occurred in 2013) off the coast of Lampedusa. The task consisted of naming the victims using forensic methods. There were over 500 people, most of them in the hold of a small fishing boat, of whom 38 were identified. In the hands of Andreas Schlageter, Dr. Cattaneo’s book (1) becomes the story of “Fishes on Foot.” His work consists of creating a tombstone as a tribute to all those who died.
